Over the years Mid-Coast School of Technology has held local SkillsUSA contests to determine which students are eligible to attend the state SkillsUSA Conference. SkillsUSA is a national co-curricular organization that connects students with teachers, industry professionals, and post-secondary institutions. In March students compete at the state level in Bangor in various contests ranging from Welding to Automotive Service, to Culinary Arts, to leadership contests such as Job Interview. Winners at the state level then are eligible to compete at the National Leadership and Skills Conference, this year located in Atlanta, Georgia.
In the past Mid-Coast held an evening event where the contests were live and open to the public. However, since the pandemic a switch has been made to have the contests run during the school day. While the contests are not open to the public, this change has led to greater student participation in all programs.
