New Carpentry teacher, Julian Stearns, has inherited a program rich with traditional projects. He has taken on two sections of first year students this year and teach them rough construction. Before students can begin framing their sheds they need an introduction to hand and power tools. Students learn about how to safely use tools and practice their skills by building a Japanese Style Toolbox. This project allows the students to practice their skills with a variety of tools and become comfortable and proficient before moving on to a large build. This year under Mr. Stearns’ leadership, he allowed the students to be creative with their boxes. The class collaborated with the Design/Tech program to utilize a laser engraver to customize each student’s project.
