About the Staff

After earning a B.A. in broadcasting and a K-8 teaching degree, Heidi Nolan imagined a future as a radio announcer or elementary school teacher. Living in Alaska in the late 1980s, she found employment with the U.S. Army’s Basic Skills Education Program helping service members improve academic skills in reading and math—and so began the segue into the adult education teaching world. Returning, years later, to her native Maine roots, Heidi found great joy working with adults pursuing alternative ways to complete high school and transition to college. Fourteen years in this field solidified her belief in the power of adult education as a system and encouraged her to take a leap into the administration side of it. When not actively working and advocating for adult education, MCST Adult Education Director Heidi Nolan can be found pedaling her road bike or driving her convertible, enjoying the splendor of the Midcoast’s back roads.

Ella Russomano first joined Mid-Coast School of Technology in 2021 as a student—and she liked it so much that she came back in late 2025 as the Adult Ed Program Assistant.

Born and raised right here in the Midcoast, Ella brings a local’s love for the community and an alum’s enthusiasm for the school. As a high school student, she won the 2023 SkillsUSA State T-Shirt Design Competition for the Design Technology program—an achievement that reflects her creativity and eye for detail. She also had an early taste of working with the Adult Ed team that same year, when she designed their catalog covers.

By joining Adult Ed, Ella continues to serve a school she has always loved. She now supports the team by organizing classes, answering questions, and lending her upbeat energy wherever it’s needed.

Craig began his career in education in 2001 as an English Second Language (ESL) tutor for refugees while living in Portland, OR. He subsequently went on to teach ESL in N.E. China full-time for 7 years.

After his initial stint abroad, he returned to the U.S. and received a Master of Fine Arts in painting from the University of Arkansas, which again took him back to Asia, initially as a Fulbright Junior Research Scholar in Taiwan and then as part of an academic team that set up an art and design college program in the greater Hong Kong area, where he then taught for 7 years.

In 2019, he relocated to midcoast Maine in the pursuit of a lifestyle change, which he successfully found. In addition to his part-time support role at MCST Adult Ed, he is also Adjunct Teaching Faculty of Fine Arts at a regional community college and a practicing artist.
